  8 = 7×8 = 56
  7 = 6×7 = 42
  6 = 5×6 = 30
  5 = 4×5 = 20
  4 = 3×4 = 12
  3 = 2×3 = 6

  The answer to 3=? is 6, I believe.

  (x + 1) * ( x + 2)

  The next number is six, as it goes down in order of multiplication, so 4 would be multiplied by 3, and 3 by 2.

  Viewed another way, each number is multiplied by the whole number directly below it.

  The answer seems to be 6
  3×2 =6
  4×3 = 12
  5×4 = 20
  6×5 = 30
  7×6 = 42
  8×7 = 56

  7=42 (7×6)

  8×7=56
  7×6=42
  6×5=30

  So nx(n-1) = required answer

  Therefore, 3x(3-1) = 3×2= 6

  My IQ is not terribly but the next number in the sequence is 4 as in 4=12. The missing number however is 6 as in 3=6
